Macalester and the Pipers split a pair of MIAC battles at Hamline Saturday. The Scots staged a remarkable seventh-inning rally in the opener, plating seven runs on seven hits to win a 10-8 thriller after falling behind 7-1, but then lost a 2-1 pitcher's duel in the nightcap.
Alisha Barritt (So., Oklahoma City, Okla. / Bethany) singled to ignite Mac's game-winning seventh inning comeback and finished it with a two-run single after the Scots had batted around.
Miranda Stokes (Fy., Perry, Utah / Box Elder), who went 2-for-4 with three runs scored in game one, pitched game two and surrendered only six hits, only to lose a heartbreaker when the Pipers scored singles runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Courtney Nussbaumer (Jr., Brookfield, Wis. / East) had three hits and two RBI in the first game and is now batting a team-leading .429.
In game one, the Pipers led 7-1 after three innings and headed into the seventh with what would seem to be a safe 8-3 advantage. However, the Scots sent 11 batters to the plate in the seventh, with
Brittany Ehmann (Fy., Island Lake, Ill. / Wauconda) and Barritt getting big two-out hits. In addition to getting three hits from Nussbaumer, the Scots received a couple hits apiece from Stokes, Barritt and
Erin Slater (Fy., Federal Way, Wash. / Decatur).
The Scots are 16-12 overall and 4-8 in the MIAC. Macalester hosts a couple MIAC doubleheaders this week, taking on Bethel Tuesday (April 17) and St. Mary's on Thursday (April 19).
