Macalester goes over .500 with sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Macalester stole 11 bases and held Northwestern-Roseville to just a couple runs on the night to gain a 9-0 and 5-2 sweep at the Metrodome.  The Scots earn their first doubleheader sweep after splitting their first six twinbills and move over the .500 mark at 10-9 heading into the MIAC season.

Game one starting pitcher Chase Kahn (So., Cooper City, Fla. / American Heritage Plantation) got the evening off to a good start, allowing just one hit in four innings to improve to 2-1 on the season.  Kahn faced just 13 batters in his four frames and robbed a Northwestern batter with a great defensive play.  Roberto Capriotti (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa. / Upper St. Clair) and Paul Schubring (Fy., Gilbert, Ariz. / Chandler Preparatory) finished off the team's second shutout in three games.

Graham Brown (Sr., Annandale, Minn.) had two hits and two RBI, while Robert Williams (Sr., West Covina, Calif. / Northview) also collected a couple hits.

Macalester went 7-for-7 in steals in the nightcap, getting three thefts from Ross Bronfenbrenner (So., San Anselmo, Calif. / Marin Academy), who tripled and came around to score on an error in game one.  Bronfrenbrenner went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI and is now batting .400.

The Scots went up 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a Justin Sims (So., Bronx, N.Y. / The Beacon School) squeeze bunt, scoring  Tom Forster (Fy., Stillwater, Minn.), who singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error.  A pair of two-out walks led to three insurance runs in the sixth inning.

Justin Kleschen (Fy., Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township) pitched the first three innings and Nick Mar (Fy., Sacramento, Calif. / McClatchy) threw the next two to pick up the win in his first pitching appearance.  Nathan Kelleher-Crew (So., Cool, Calif. / Golden Sierra) picked up the save with a two-inning stint.

The Eagles drop to 6-8 on the season.

The Scots begin defense of their 2011 MIAC co-championship when they host St. Olaf Saturday (March 31) at 1 p.m.
