Season begins in California

Macalester began its 2012 water polo season over the weekend at the Claremont Convergence in Claremont, California.  The Scots played twice Friday at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and a couple more games Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer.

The Scots were handed defeats in all four games from strong Southern California teams.  On Friday, Macalester fell to California Lutheran 17-3 and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 18-5.  On Saturday, the Scots lost to Redlands 17-6 and Occidental 18-6.

Goal-scoring leaders for Mac through the four games were Catherine Flint with seven goals, Adrienne Burgin (Fy., Walnut Creek, Calif. / Acalanes) with five and Sarah Shoemaker (Fy., Saratoga, Calif. / St. Francis).  Flint had four goals against Redland and Burgin scored four times against Occidental.

Macalester plays a pair of games Sunday in Whittier, taking on Whittier and La Verne.
