Box Score
Laura Avena
Macalester hosted Hamline on Senior Night and Dig Pink Night and played the Pipers tough before dropping a 3-1 decision in the final home match of the season.  Scores were 25-22, 19-25, 25-22 and 25-15.

The season's biggest crowd helped raise donations to the Side-Out Foundation for cancer research and awareness.  They also came to honor the team's five seniors, who were playing on their home court for the final time: Casey Colodny (Windemere, Fla.),  Julia Gartzke (New Glarus, Wis.), Mattie Hill (Liberty, Mo.), Glasha Marcon (Richmond, Calif. / Albany), Anna Trier (Sun Prairie, Wis.),

The Scots attacked at a .323 rate and posted a .695 side-out mark in their set two victory.  Up by three points at 14-11, Macalester went on a 5-2 rally to extend its advantage to 19-13.  Three straight Piper points late in the set cut the lead to 22-19 before the Scots tallied the final three points.  Macalester losses in the first and third sets were in down-to-the-wire fashion.

Marcon led the back row performance with 14 digs, while the attack was spearheaded by Laura Avena (Jr., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium #1) with 22 kills to go along with four serving aces.  Kasey McMaster (Fy., Oak Ridge, Tenn.) contributed 19 assists and five kills, and Anna Munson (So., La Crosse, Wis.) distributed 17 assists.

Kill leaders, in addition to Avena, were Hannah Rehak (So., Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep) with eight and Trier with six.

Hamline improves to 18-9 overall and 1-7 in the MIAC, while Macalester is 7-17 on the year, 0-8 in conference play.

The Pipers were led by Sam Greeney-Hamlin with 18 kills and six blocks.  Becka Mozes dished out 30 set assists and Stephanie Kaup spiked 13 kills.

Macalester has three matches remaining on the slate: tomorrow at Bethel, next Wednesday (Oct. 24) at St. Olaf, and next Friday (Oct. 26) at St. Catherine.
