Macalester vs. Carleton statistics | Video clips from the match:
Cloepfil's game-winner |
A Glenn-Finer save
Macalester's defense was superb once again as the Scots posted their seventh shutout in nine games, and defeated Carleton 1-0 on a warm evening at Macalester Stadium.
Izzi Speer (So., Madison, Wis. / West) assisted on a
Georgia Cloepfil (So., Portland, Ore. / Lincoln) goal at 30:17 and that was all the scoring the Scots needed as Macalester moves up to 6-2-1 on the season and in a good spot in the MIAC standings at 3-0-1. Macalester has not surrendered a goal in four MIAC matches and is one of two unbeaten league sides, along with St. Olaf (4-0).
Cloepfil and Speer, who hooked up on a breakaway to beat Hamline 1-0 last weekend, combined their talents once again in the opening half to produce the game's only score. Speer leads the team with four assists and Cloepfil shares the team lead with two goals.
The Knights, who beat Macalester 4-0 a year ago, out-shot the Scots 19-7, but found scoring much more difficult this time around.
Rosie Glenn-Finer (Jr., San Francisco, Calif. / Lick Wilmerding) stopped four Carleton shots on goal and lowers her goals against average on the year to 0.32.
Macalester plays a non-conference game Saturday (Oct. 1) at home against Cornell (Ia.) at 5:30 p.m. and then plays another non-conference match Sunday (Oct. 2) at Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
