Macalester vs. St. Scholastica statistics
The Scots had plenty of scoring opportunities in the season-opener Thursday night at Macalester Stadium, but came up short with a 2-1 defeat to St. Scholastica. Macalester's lone score was put in by
Robin Forslund (So., Madison, Wis. / Memorial) off a rebound from in close in the second half to cut a 2-0 CSS lead in half. The Scots, though, could not manage the equalizer.
Macalester edged St. Scholastica 1-0 in overtime in last season's opening match, but could not make it two in a row against the Saints, the defending champs of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and pre-season picks to win again.
St. Scholastica opened the scoring midway through the opening half from in close, and went up 2-0 on a second half tally. After Forslund netted his third career goal, the Scots had a few good chances but could not force OT.
Mac placed eight shots on net, three by
Taylor Rasmussen (Jr., Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) and two by
Chris Kartheiser (So., Shorewood, Wis.). Rasmussen was denied a game-tying goal in the 79th minute on the seventh CSS goalkeeper save.
The Scots look to get into the win column Sunday (Sept. 4) when they host Luther (Ia.) at 4 p.m. in the second half of a women's/men's double header. Six of the team's first seven games are at home.
