Scots begin MIAC play with setbacks at Carleton

Macalester vs. Carleton box scores: Game 1 | Game 2

Carleton toppled Macalester 6-3 and 7-1 in Northfield in the MIAC opener for the Scots. Macalester, playing for the first time in over two weeks, is now 7-9 on the season, 0-2 in the league, while the Knights get their second straight sweep an improve to 7-13 overall and 4-2 in MIAC play.

Cleo Nagy (Fy., Eugene, Ore. / Henry D. Sheldon) and Amanda Knopf (Jr., Boulder, Colo) collected three hits apiece on the day to lead the Macalester attack, and Hayley Reeves (Sr., Oberlin, Ohio) belted a two-run homer, her third round-tripper of the season, in the opener.

Game one was locked 3-3 through three innings before the Knights took the lead for good with a single run in the bottom of the fourth. Carleton added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth. Lily Alexander (Fy., Takoma Park, Md. / Montgomery Blair) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In game two, Carleton got all it needed with four runs in the fourth inning.

Mac jumps back into action Thursday (April 7) at St. Mary's. The home opener is Saturday (April 9) against St. Olaf at 1 p.m.
