Macalester traveled to Southern California over Spring Break to open the season with eight matches against very strong competition. The Scots went 1-7 on the trip, gaining an 8-7 triumph over Caltech.

Macalester's defeats came to the hands of Vanguard, Azusa Pacific, Cal Baptist, La Verne, Whittier, Caltech and Chapman.
