Concordia hands Macalester first MIAC defeat

Macalester vs. Concordia statistics

Macalester nemesis Concordia came into Saturday's contest in Moorhead with a six-match winning streak over the Scots.  The Cobbers scored twice early, held on after the Scots scored in the 78th minute, and extended their winning streak over Macalester to seven with a 2-1 victory.

The Scots suffer their first MIAC defeat of the year and are 4-1-1 in conference action, and get scored on for the first time in a MIAC match.  Mac is now 8-4-1 overall.

It didn't take long for the host Cobbers to take command as Sarah Rounds netted her ninth marker of the season in the fifth minute of play.  Midway through the opening half the Cobbers made it 2-0.

Maggie Molter (So., Cedarburg, Wis.) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season on an assist from Claire Henkel (Jr., Lexington, Ky. / Bryan Station) at 77:12 to bring the Scots to within a goal, but Concordia would not surrender the equalizer.

Concordia out-shot Macalester 14-4 and forced Rosie Glenn-Finer (Jr., San Francisco, Calif. / Lick Wilmerding) to make six saves on the day.

Macalester plays another big MIAC match Tuesday (Oct. 11) when it plays at St. Thomas.
