Molter hat trick leads Macalester into first place tie

Macalester vs. St. Catherine statistics

Maggie Molter (So., Cedarburg, Wis.) scored three goals to lead Macalester to a 4-0 win at St. Catherine as the Scots grab a share of the lead in the MIAC standings at 4-0-1.  Macalester hasn't allowed a goal in five conference matches and is tied with St. Olaf (also 4-0-1) for first place.

Coming off the bench, Molter sparked the Scots with a goal in the 35th minute and another in the 38th minute to give the visitors a 2-0 halftime margin.  Bonnie Bentson (So., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) assisted on the first goal and Izzi Speer (So., Madison, Wis. / West) set up the second.  Molter then gave the Scots a 3-0 cushion with her first career hat trick in the 56 minute.  Her three goals came within a 21-minute stretch.

Taylor Helfand (Jr., Corvallis, Ore.) wrapped up the scoring in the 82nd minute with her first Macalester goal.

Rosie Glenn-Finer (Jr., San Francisco, Calif. / Lick Wilmerding) turned away six shots to extend her MIAC scoreless streak to 496 minutes.

Macalester had a 15-6 advantage in shots on goal and 24-11 lead in overall shots over the Wildcats (1-11 / 0-5 MIAC).  Molter had five shots on net and Helfand added four.

The Scots travel to Moorhead Saturday (Oct. 8) for an MIAC match at Concordia.
