After splitting their two matches Friday, the Scots went 1-1 again during the second day of play at the Macalester Invitational at the Leonard Center. Macalester toppled Concordia (Wis.) in three close sets in the morning match, but fell in five sets to tournament champ Carleton in the afternoon contest. The Scots are now 8-8 on the season.
Taylor Tinkham (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) spiked 15 kills in 20 attacks, hitting .650, to lead the way for the Scots in the 25-21, 25-23, 26-24 triumph over Concordia, while
Kiera Coulter (Sr., Davis, Calif.) and
Laura Avena (Fy., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium #1) registered 14 digs each.
Steffanie Fisher (So., Lindenhurst, Ill. / Lakes Community) dished out 41 assists.
Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.) spiked 17 kills and hit .400 and Avena added 11 kills.
Carleton rallied from a two-set deficit to win 17-25, 12-25, 25-20, 25-15, 15-10. Mucic finished with 19 kills and Tinkham added 13, while
Glasha Marcon (So., Richmond, Calif. / Albany)and Avena led the back row with 13 digs apiece.
Tinkham posted a .449 attack percentage with 3.1 kills per set as was selected to the all-tournament team.
Macalester returns to MIAC play Tuesday (Sept. 22) at St. Olaf.
