Defending MIAC champion and No. 14-ranked Concordia beat Macalester 2-0 Wednesday in St. Paul. The Cobbers have won six straight in the series between these two conference rivals and are 6-0-1 vs. the Scots since a Mac 2005 NCAA playoff triumph over the Cobbers.
Macalester drops to 3-2 on the season and 0-1 in the MIAC. Concordia is now 4-1 overall, 2-0 in the MIAC.
Sarah Rounds scored on a header in the ninth minute to put the Cobbers on top early. Concordia put things away in the 81st minute on a Susan Oppenmiller marker.
The Scots had an 8-6 advantage in shots on net, but could not beat the CC keeper Ali Nelson.
Emily Humphreys (So., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) accounted for four of Mac's eight shots on net.
Mac took 10 corner kicks, compared to four for the Cobbers and through four matches this season, have a commanding 49-9 advantage in corner kicks.
Macalester plays Saturday (Sept. 18) at Wartburg (Ia.) and Sunday (Sept. 19) at Luther (Ia.)
