Macalester vs. Minnesota-Morris statistics
Down two sets to one and behind 21-16 and 23-20 in the fourth, Macalester rallied late to force a decisive fifth set, but could not hold off Minnesota-Morris in a 3-2 setback to the Cougars at the Leonard Center. There were 13 lead changes and 24 ties in this close match.
Set scores for the Scots were 21-25, 25-14, 20-25, 25-23 and 9-15. UMM improves to 6-3, while Macalester falls to 6-5.
Steffanie Fisher (So., Lindenhurst, Ill. / Lakes Community) set up the offense with a season-high and career-high 36 assists. Fisher distributed the ball evenly between
Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.) with 13 kills, and
Taylor Tinkham (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) and
Laura Avena (Fy., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium #1) with 11 kills apiece. Mucic was in on six blocks.
Glasha Marcon (So., Richmond, Calif. / Albany) served four of Macalester's nine aces. Four Scots finished in double figures in digs, led by Fisher with 13 and
Kiera Coulter (Sr., Davis, Calif.) with 12. Avena and
Bailey Rehnberg (Fy., York, Pa. / York Suburban) each contributed 10 digs.
UM-Morris was led by Natalie Thomas with 46 assists and Jordan Olerud with 15 digs.
Macalester hit .169, including .310 in the quick second set win.
The Scots open their MIAC schedule tomorrow night at Gustavus. They host the Macalester Invitational this Friday and Saturday (Sept. 17-18).
