Macalester vs. Crown statistics
Macalester won a hard-fought third set and went on to defeat Crown 3-1 in St. Bonafacius in the first match of the season and the first Macalester victory for new head coach
Annie Doman. Set three was the key, as the Scots won 25-23 in a set featuring 13 ties and nine lead changes.
The Scots attacked at a .255 clip and served eight aces to fight back for a 20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-19 triumph.
Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park (Minn.)) knocked down 16 kills and hit at a .462 percentage to lead the way.
Taylor Tinkham (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) added 12 kills and five blocks to the Macalester attack and hit .333, while
Steffanie Fisher (So., Lindenhurst, Ill. / Lakes Community) handed out 33 assists.
Leading the back row were
Kiera Coulter (Sr., Davis, Calif.) with 12 digs,
Laura Avena (Fy., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium #1) with 11 and
Glasha Marcon (So., Richmond, Calif. / Albany) with 10. Avena also served three aces.
In the opening set of the match, Macalester pulled away from a 14-14 tie. In the clinching fourth set, the Scots jumped out on top 8-1 and 11-4, and never trailed. The biggest lead of the third set battle was three points at 10-7 in favor of Mac.
The Scots jump quickly jump back into competition with four matches tomorrow and Friday at the
St. Olaf Invitational, where they go up against Presentation (S.D.), Martin Luther, St. Olaf and Bethany Lutheran.
