Macalester had a rough day at Midway Stadium against Hamline in the team's second MIAC twinbill of the season, suffering 4-3 and 7-3 defeats as the Pipers struck quickly with big first innings and holding off late seventh-inning threats in both games for the sweep.

Hamline's first four batters had hits and later crossed the plate in the bottom of the first inning in the opener and the Pipers held on to win despite no more runs after that. Macalester starter Elliott Yodh (Jr., Merion, Pa. / Lower Merion) weathered the storm and kept the Scots alive, giving up just two hits and no runs until being relieved in the sixth inning. At one point, he retired 11 out of 12 batters until a sixth inning error.

The Scots responded to HU's big opening inning by scoring twice in the fourth and one more time in the fifth to get to within a run. Bobby De Meulenaere (Jr., Elk Grove Village, Ill. / Elk Grove) doubled in two fourth inning runs and in the fifth, Devin English (Sr., Annapolis, Md. / DeMatha) doubled to center and scored on a single to right by Nate Wilson-Traisman (Sr., Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene).

After leaving the tying and go-ahead run on base the in seventh inning in the opener, the Scots nearly pulled off deep comeback in game two, but left the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate in the seventh. This brought a little drama to the game after the Pipers had things their own way in building a 7-0 lead after five innings.

Wilson-Traisman and Garrett Salzman (So., Glendale, Calif. / St. Francis) each collected two hits and Wilson-Traisman belted his third home run of the season.

Hamline is now 8-15 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC. Mac falls to 12-9-1 overall, 0-4 in the MIAC.

Macalester is off until next Tuesday (April 13) when it makes the short trip down Summit Avenue to take on defending NCAA Division III champion St. Thomas.
