Scots bounce back to gain split at Concordia

Macalester vs. Concordia box scores: Game 1 | Game 2

After dropping a 2-1 pitcher's battle in the final inning in the first game of an MIAC twinbill in Moorhead, the Scots came back with a 6-3 win in the nightcap to gain a split with Concordia. Macalester was down 3-1 in game two before crossing the plate four times in the top of the fifth frame to take the lead for good.

In the opener, Mac pitcher Olivia Abbott (Sr., Lakewood, Colo. / Green Mountain) scattered nine hits but gave up just a solo fourth inning run until CC's two-out game-winner. Amanda Cagan (Sr., Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) belted a pair of doubles and scored Macalester's run in the top of the third on a Chloe Souza (So., Los Angeles, Calif. / Windward) RBI single.

Cagan, Souza and Alison Phillips (Sr., Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai Stevenson) collected a couple hits apiece.

Souza went 3-for-4 on game two and with a 5-for-7 performance on the day, raises her batting average on the season to .323. Mac received two hits each from Cagan and Ali Nystrom (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn.) and pitcher Chloe Souza (So., Boulder, Colo.) struck out five batters and walked only one to collect the win.  The Scots scored four runs on five hits in the fourth.

Macalester (7-25 overall and 3-11 in the MIAC) continues its MIAC campaign Thursday (April 22) when it plays host to St. Benedict.
