The Scots dropped their first two games in the four-game HyVee Classic at Grinnell (Ia.) College. Grinnell beat Macalester 3-1 in Friday morning's game and Graceland (Ia.) toppled the Scots 8-4 in the afternoon.

Grinnell's Hannah Bauman beat Mac's Olivia Abbott (Sr., Lakewood, Colo. / Green Mountain) in a pitcher's duel as the Pioneers scored once in the first inning and twice in the fourth.

Grinnell moves to 2-9 on the season and the Scots drop to 4-13.

Crystal Barriga (Sr., Broomfield, Colo. / Legacy) collected two of Mac's five hits and scored on an Alison Phillips (Sr., Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai Stevenson) triple.

In Friday's afternoon contest, Graceland tallied single runs in the first three innings and led 5-4 before scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth to put things away. Phillips drove in two Macalester runs, while Barriga and Amanda Cagan (Sr., Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) each had a double. Cagan scored two runs.

Macalester takes on Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Washington (Mo.) tomorrow.
