Macalester opens its 2010 women's water polo season by playing five games this weekend at the College Water Polo Association (CWPA) “West vs. Central” tournament in Pittsburgh.

The Scots began their season on a winning note, topping host-Chatham 19-11. Mac led 3-1 after the first quarter of play before registering seven second-quarter scores to go up 10-7 at halftime. The Scots out-scored Chatham 5-2 in the third period to extend their advantage.

Catherine Flint (So., Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry Gunn) scored nine goals to lead the Scots. Sarah Ellerton (Sr., Suffield, Conn. / Suffield Academy) netted the season's first goal and finished with seven tallies.

Hannah Strauss-Albee (Fy., Plymouth, Minn. / Wayzata) made 13 saves in her first college game in goal.

The Scots play Saturday against Grove City (Pa.), Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) and Wheaton (Ill.). On Sunday, they take on Carthage (Wis.).
