The Scots played their home-opener Saturday against Bethany Lutheran and split the doubleheader, winning the opener 9-4 before dropping the second game 4-2. Macalester, which received two home runs in its victory, are now 4-10 on the season.
Crystal Barriga (Sr., Broomfield, Colo. / Legacy) belted a two-run homer in the third inning of the opener and
Olivia Abbott (Sr., Lakewood, Colo. / Green Mountain) added a two-run shot the following frame to lead the way. Five Scots collected a pair of hits each.
Mac scored three times in the third, getting a Nystrom single, an
Amanda Cagan (Sr., Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) RBI double, and home run No. 3 on the season by Barriga. In the fourth, Abbott drove in
Monica Keaney (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa. / Friends Select) with her first career round-tripper.
Abbott struck out nine BLC batters and improves her pitching mark to 4-2 on the year.
In the second game, the Vikings crossed the plate twice in the top of the sixth to break a 2-2 deadlock.
Alison Phillips (Sr., Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai Stevenson) went 2-for-2 for the second game in a row and is now batting .385 on the season.
The Scots open their MIAC season Wednesday (March 31) at Augsburg.
