Macalester vs. Bethel statistics
After quick defeats in the opening two sets, Macalester fought back in the third set before falling 28-26 as Bethel swept the visiting Scots 3-0 in Arden Hills. The Scots drop to 10-14 on the season, 1-6 in the MIAC, while the Royals improve to 11-12 overall and 3-4 in the MIAC.
Glasha Marcon (So., Richmond, Calif. / Albany) spiked 10 kills to lead the way for Macalester.
Laura Avena (Fy., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium #1) and
Kiera Coulter (Sr., Davis, Calif.) each collected eight digs to lead the defensive effort.
Taylor Tinkham (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) and
Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.) added eight kills apiece.
After dropping the first two sets 25-12 and 25-16, Macalester responded with solid third set before surrendering the final three points. Bethel went up 8-3 early but seven unanswered Mac points gave the Scots a 10-8 advantage. After that, the lead in the set was larger than two points just once – when the Scots went up 21-18 following three straight points. Macalester had three set points but could not force a fourth set.
The Scots return to the court next Wednesday (Oct. 20) when they host North Central (Minn.) in a non-conference match on Dig Pink Night.
