Macalester stands at 10-11 on the season after splitting its two matches Friday at Northwestern College in Roseville. The Scots swept Presentation (S.D.) in quick fashion 25-8, 25-16, 25-15, before falling in three sets to Northwestern 8-25, 21-25, 9-25.
The Scots match their victory total from the last two seasons combined and reach double digits in wins for the first time since 2006.
Macalester attacked at a season-best .500 rate in the Presentation match (42 kills – 5 errors – 74 attacks) and served 11 aces – four by
Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.) and three by
Glasha Marcon (So., Richmond, Calif. / Albany). Mucic spiked 11 kills and
Taylor Tinkham (Jr., St. Louis Park) added 10.
Kiera Coulter (Sr., Davis, Calif.) led back row play with 11 digs.
Northwestern dominated sets one and three in the night's second match and held off the Scots for a 25-21 in the second set, which featured 10 ties and four lead changes.
Laura Avena (Fy. Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium #1) finished with nine digs and nine kills to lead the Scots.
Macalester is off for a week before returning to the court Friday (Oct. 8) at Augsburg and Saturday (Oct. 9) at home against St. Thomas.
