Scots return to competition for first time since Dec. 5

Complete Macalester vs. St. Olaf results

Returning to competitive action for the first time since Dec. 5, the Scots took on St. Olaf in an MIAC dual meet Saturday in Northfield and were defeated by the Oles 140-65. Macalester compiled three first-place swims on the day against the traditional MIAC powers.

Individual Macalester event winners were: Clare Pillsbury (So., Baraboo, Wis.) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.01), Grace Fleming (So., Northampton, Mass.) in the 500 freestyle (5:32.82), andKaroline Hart (So., Rexford, N.Y. / Niskayuna) in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.34).

Hillary Frey (So., Portland, Ore. / St. Mary's) was runner-up to Fleming in the 500 free (5:42.06) and was also second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.88).

One of Mac's best performances was turned in by the 200-yard medley relay team, which was edged by 2/10 second by the Oles despite a near school-record time of 1:56.84. Relay team members were: Pillsbury, Hart, Kiersten Yeazel (Jr., Bronx, N.Y. / Fieldston School) and Anna Gajewski (Sr., Wausau, Wis. / East).

The Scots compete next Friday and Saturday (Jan. 15-16) at the Grinnell College (Ia.) Invitational.
