Goals by Rasmussen, Gorecki spark Scots in MIAC opener

Macalester vs. Concordia statistics

Macalester got its MIAC season off to a good starting, rallying from a halftime deficit to defeat Concordia 2-1 in Moorhead. Taylor Rasmussen (Fy., Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) tied the match at 1-1 with a goal at the 58:19 mark and 10 minutes later Carson Gorecki (Sr., Mahtomedi, Minn.) netted the game-winner off an Erik Johnson (Jr., Bethesda, Md. / Landon) assist.

With the win, Macalester moves up to 2-3-1 on the campaign. This was the team's second come-from-behind 2-1 win in four days.  The Cobbers drop to 2-4. This was the MIAC opener for both squads.

The match featured 15 corner kicks (nine by Macalester). Mac's Mark Mullaney (Jr., Plymouth, Minn. / Robbinsdale Armstrong) and Concordia keeper Mads Schmidt each team's goalkeeper registered seven saves. The Scots earned a narrow 9-8 margin in shots on goal.

Concordia went into the halftime break up 1-0 on a Kyle Quimby tally.

Macalester's second half comeback started when Rasmussen netted his second goal of the year in the 59th minute. Gorecki, who scored the game-winner in a comeback last weekend over UW-Platteville, took advantage of Johnson's pass to net his 10th career game-winning goal at 68:30.

The Scots host Central (Ia.) Friday (Sept. 18) at 7:30 p.m. They return to MIAC play next Wednesday (Sept. 23) when they play host to No. 14-ranked Augsburg. The Auggies are rated second in the North Region.
