Macalester struck the first blow, winning set one 25-20 in the season opener against Luther (Ia.) at the Leonard Center, but the visiting Norse took the next three sets to topple the Scots 3-1. The first two sets were closely contested and after the match was deadlocked at 1-1, Luther pulled away by out-spiking Macalester 28-14 in the final two sets.

Majra Mucic (Jr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.) had five blocks, 10 kills and hit at a .242 rate to lead the way for the Scots at the net. Glasha Marcon (Fy., Richmond, Calif. / Albany) and Marie Godwin (Sr., Chaska) led the defensive effort with 17 digs apiece, while Steffanie Fisher (Fy., Lindenhurst, Ill. / Lakes Community) distributed 15 assists. Kiera Coulter (Jr., Davis, Calif.) picked up nine assists and eight digs.

The Norse were led by Taylor Hjerleid with 42 set assists and Taylor Skoglund with 16 kills. Grace Hamlin helped the cause with 22 digs and four serving aces.

Mac jumps right back into action tomorrow when it plays a non-conference match at Minnesota-Morris. On Friday (Sept. 4) the Scots take on Crown and Martin Luther in Northfield.
