The Scots and visiting Luther (Ia.) finished their season-opening match at Macalester Stadium with a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes of defensive-minded and physical play at Macalester Stadium Tuesday night. The match featured five yellow cards and 30 fouls.
Mac's
Mark Mullaney (Jr., Plymouth, Minn. / Robbinsdale Armstrong) registered the game's only three saves to post his fourth career shutout.
Luther out-shot the home side 13-10, including 4-0 in the second 10-minute overtime stanza.
Macalester plays on its home turf twice this weekend, hosting St. Scholastica on Friday (Sept. 4) at 3 p.m. and Wartburg on Sunday (Sept. 6) at 1 p.m. Both matches are part of a women's-men's doubleheader at Macalester Stadium with the Saints and the Knights. These will be major challenges for the Scots. St. Scholastica beat Mac 3-0 last year and is the two-time defending champs of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. Wartburg has made the NCAA playoffs the past six seasons and earlier today beat defending MIAC champ Carleton 3-0.
