After scoring a total of seven goals in two earlier matches with Grove City (Pa.), both defeats, Macalester jumped to a 5-1 first quarter advantage and cruised to a 10-4 win over Grove City in the Collegiate III national tournament seventh-place game at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

The Scots battled back from a 0-4 start to this tourney to close out the season with an all-time best 17-15 record. Pomona-Pitzer beat Redlands for the team championship, while UC-Santa Cruz toppled Occidental in the third-place match.

Catherine Anderson (Fy., Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry Gunn) fired in five of her team's 10 goals to lead the Macalester attack. Sofia Shaw (Sr., Tacoma, Wash. / Stadium) registered 11 saves from her goalkeeper position to wind up an outstanding Macalester career.

Claire Eder (So., Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township) and Sarah Ellerton (Jr., Suffield, Conn. / Suffield Academy) each tallied a pair of goals, while Bailey Gucinski (Fy., Chicago, Ill. / Waubonsie Valley) scored once. Eder led the defensive effort with five steals.

Ellerton was named to the second team All-Tournament squad and Shaw received honorable mention honors.

Shaw made 45 saves in the five games and establishes a school record with 403 on the season.  Anderson led the team with 12 goals scored while Ellerton netted 11.  Gucinski scored five goals and Eder added four.

Ellerton ends the season with a team-high 66 goals, just three more than Anderson.  Ellerton also led the Scots in assists (35), stolen balls (96) and ejections drawn (42). [ final stats ]
