Scots come up empty against Cardinal pitchers

St. Mary's pitchers kept Macalester off the scoreboard in both games to gain 7-0 and 8-0 shutouts over the Scots in Winona. The Cardinals led 2-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning of game two and then clinched the sweep by posting six runs.

Macalester has dropped five straight and drops to 8-27 overall, 3-17 in the MIAC. St. Mary's improves to 18-14 and 10-10 in the league.

The hosts scored three times in the first inning and twice in the second to go up quickly in the opener 5-0 and for the game pounded out 13 hits.

Mac's Amanda Knopf (Fy., Boulder, Colo.) pitched a good game in the nightcap, keeping the Cards off the board for four innings in a row in a pitcher's duel after giving up two in the first, before SMU put things away in the sixth. Chloe Souza (Fy., Los Angeles, Calif. / Windward) went 2-for-2 to raise her average to .305.

The Scots wind up their conference schedule Saturday (April 25) at home against Hamline. The Pipers are headed for the MIAC playoffs, most likely as the No. 3 seed. Macalester closes out the season next Wednesday (April 29) at home against Martin Luther.
