Macalester began this weekend's Midwest Region Tournament at Leonard Natatorium and Riley Pool with a perfect 3-0 record as the host team, using tight defense and strong goalkeeping by Sofia Shaw (Sr., Tacoma, Wash. / Stadium) to topple Colorado College 10-3, Wheaton (Ill.) 6-5 and Carthage (Wis.) 8-4.

Shaw turned away 39 shots on goal on the day.

The Scots led 4-0 after the first quarter in the morning match with Colorado College and Macalester received four goals from Catherine Anderson (Fy., Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry Gunn). Sarah Ellerton (Jr., Suffield, Conn. / Suffield Academy) collected a pair of goals.

Anderson netted her fourth goal of the game to break a late deadlock to give Mac a 6-5 lead with less than a minute to play against Wheaton in the day's closest contest and Shaw clinched the win with a save in the final seconds.

With another three scores in Macalester's win over Carthage, Anderson finished her day with 11 goals. Ellerton and Aubrey Harding (Jr., Salem, Ore. / South Salem) each fired in two goals.

Mac plays an 8:30 a.m. semi-final match with Colorado College. If the Scots make the finals, they'll play again Saturday at 2:30 p.m.  If they make the finals, the game will available live on Mac's webcast.
