Game 2
The Scots and Carleton split an MIAC doubleheader at Macalester Field as both teams snap losing streaks to pick up their first conference wins of the season.
Olivia Abbott (Jr., Lakewood, Colo. / Green Mountain) tossed a four-hit shutout in the nightcap to lift Macalester to a 3-0 victory after the Knights claimed the opener 3-2 with a run in the top of the seventh inning.
Abbott didn't allow a walk to gain her fourth win of the year and received strong defensive play behind her. Macalester tallied all the runs it needed in the opening frame, bouncing back from the narrow defeat in first game with a couple quick runs on four hits, including an Abbott RBI single and a
Chloe Souza (Fy., Los Angeles, Calif. / Windward) run-scoring hit.
Ali Nystrom (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.) began the rally with a deep double to center from her leadoff spot.
The Scots added an insurance run in the sixth after Abbott worked out of a jam in the top half of the inning as Souza scored on an
Alison Phillips (Jr., Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) single. Abbott, Souza and Phillips finished with two hits for the game.
In game one, the Knights posted single runs in the first and second innings before the Scots crossed the plate twice in the bottom of the third to deadlock the score. Carleton scored the winning run on a throwing error in the seventh.
Mac pitcher
Amanda Knopf (Fy., Boulder, Colo.) struck out six batters and allowed just six hits and one earned run.
The busy Scots play tomorrow at St. Benedict and Thursday (April 16) at home against St. Catherine.
