One week after opening the season with a win over the University of Minnesota Club team, Macalester picked up another triumph over the U of M Thursday night at the Riley Pool. The Scots led by a slim 3-2 margin after a quarter of play and were on top 5-2 at halftime. Mac led 9-5 heading into the final period.
Sofia Shaw (Sr., Tacoma, Wash. / Stadium) turned away 14 shots as Macalester's goalkeeper to lead the way, while also contributing one assist and one steal.
Catherine Anderson (Fy., Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry Gunn) led the team with four goals to go along with two assists and a steal.
Sarah Ellerton (Jr., Suffield, Conn. / Suffield Academy) also enjoyed a big game, finishing with three goals, three assists and a couple steals.
Claire Eder (So., Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township) assisted on three Macalester scores and led the defensive effort with four steals.
Macalester received one goal apiece from Eder,
Aubrey Harding (Jr., Salem, Ore. / South Salem),
Ari Litman (Fy., Claremont, Calif. / Vivian Webb School), and
Melinda Vogel (So., Santa Barbara, Calif. / San Marcos).
The Scots travel tomorrow to Southern California to play a nine-game schedule over Spring Break March 14-21. Macalester will play some top-notch competition, taking on Whittier (twice), La Verne (twice), Chapman, Cal Lutheran, Redlands, Occidental and Caltech.
