Macalester wins in extra innings; Splits pair with UMM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Game 1 box score | Game 2 box score

Macalester came from 4-1 down to force extra innings, and won the first game on an Amanda Cagan (Jr., Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) ) RBI double, but Minnesota-Morris responded with a 4-0 triumph in the nightcap to gain a split with the Scots Wednesday morning at the Rosemount Dome.

The Scots are now 2-2 heading into a 10-game Spring Break schedule next week in  Florida, while UMM goes to 2-7.

Looking at a late-inning three-run deficit in the first game as a result of leaving too many runners on base, the Scots rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning in the opener to tie things up on hits by Natalie Clifford (Fy., Woodbury, Minn. / Trinity), Ali Nystrom (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.), Cagan and Crystal Barriga (Jr., Broomfield, Colo. / Legacy).

After helping out with a double in the sixth, Cagan's second two-bagger of the game drove in Nystrom with the game-winner. Nystrom started the frame with her third hit of the game.

Olivia Abbott (Jr., Lakewood, Colo. / Green Mountain) struck out eight batters and didn't walk anyone, to improve to 2-0 on the year.

Minnesota-Morris also jumped out on top in the nightcap, this time holding on for a four-hit shutout.

The Scots play 10 Spring Break games March 15-20. In Ft. Myers, at the Gene Cusic Classic, the team will play Delaware Valley, SUNY-Fredonia, SUNY-New Paltz, Salem State, Albright, Illinois College, Worchester State, Centenary (N.J.), Roger Williams and Richard Stockton.
