Macalester vs. St. Scholastica statistics
St. Scholastica, an NCAA Division III second round playoff team a year ago, extended its regular-season winning streak to 14 games by topping Macalester 3-1 in Duluth. The Scots are handed their first setback of the season and drop to 2-1 on the young campaign. The Saints improve to 2-0 after going 19-3-1 last year, bowing out in the national playoffs to eventual national champion Wheaton (Ill.). CSS hasn't dropped a regular-season match since a 1-0 double overtime defeat at Macalester last September.
After St. Scholastica converted a penalty kick chance in the 30th minute, the Scots scored the equalizer on an
Emily Hall (So., Seattle, Wash. / Roosevelt) goal – her second of the season – from long range at 57:04.
A pair of quick St. Scholastica scores at 72:53 and 76:13, however, put the game away.
CSS and Mac each had 14 shots, while the Saints had a 9-8 advantage in shots on goal. Mac's
Lauryn Gutierrez (So., Hickory, N. C. / St. Stephen's) was stopped with saves three times by the CSS keeper. Hall and
Emily Bardwell (So., Denver, Colo. / East) each registered two shots on goal.
Macalester opens MIAC play next Tuesday (Sept. 9) at Carleton.
