Macalester vs. Luther statistics

Annie Virnig (Sr., Spokane, Wash. / Lewis & Clark) was in goal for the team's fourth consecutive shutout win as Macalester topped Luther 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Decorah, Iowa. The Scots boost their record to 6-2 going into a major challenge Wednesday (Oct. 1) when they play host to No. 4-ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Norse drop to 4-3-2.

Rose Betzler (Jr., Northfield, Minn.) provided Macalester with the game's only goal in the 26th minute on an assist from Maddy Cochrane (Jr., Grand Marais, Minn. / Cook County). Betzler's score was her fourth of the season, tying her for the team lead. It was her 15th career goal at Macalester. Virnig came up with two saves as the team's defensive scoreless streak extends to 361 minutes. The Scots have yielded just six goals in eight games this season.

Macalester had a slim 16-13 lead in shots. Emily Bardwell (So., Denver, Colo. / East) accounted for seven Mac shots, and was turned away by saves on three shots on goal.
