Third straight shutout puts Macalester at 5-2 on season

Macalester gained its third straight shutout win Tuesday afternoon at Hamline, blanking the Pipers 2-0 to improve to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in the MIAC.

Lauryn Gutierrez (So., Hickory, N. C. / St. Stephen's) scored on a Jordan Eckstein (So., Northampton, Mass.) assist just 62 seconds into the match, and in the 88th minute of play, Emily Bardwell (So., Denver, Colo. / East) made it 2-0 on an assist from Rose Betzler (Jr., Northfield, Minn.).

For Gutierrez, it was her team-leading fourth goal of the year. Bardwell scored the game-winner last weekend in a 1-0 triumph over St. Olaf.

Goalkeeper Jenny Lee (Sr., Circle Pines, Minn. / Centennial) turned away two HU shots on goal and with her third consecutive shutout, extends her scoreless streak to 271 minutes. This was Lee's 19th career shutout at Mac.

Each team launched 10 shots and Macalester earned a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.

The Scots go for their fourth straight win Sunday (Sept. 28) at Luther (Ia.).
