Knights top Scots; Mac heads to Atlanta for tough weekend matches

Macalester vs. Carleton statistics

Macalester hosted Carleton Wednesday evening in the inaugural athletic contest at the new Leonard Center. The Scots played well against an NCAA playoff team from a year ago, but came up short three sets to one. Scores were 15-25, 23-25, 25-17 and 14-25. The Scots, who hadn't played for 10 days, drop to 4-3 on the season and 0-1 in the MIAC. Carleton improves to 4-6 overall, 1-0 in the conference.

Majra Mucic (So., Zenica Bosnia / St. Louis Park (Minn.)) led the way for Mac at the net, pounding 14 of her team's 34 kills. She also served three of the team's aces.

Marie Godwin (Jr., Chaska, Minn.) was the No. 2 attacking threat for the Scots, finishing with eight kills while also contributing seven digs. Sonia Muzikarova (Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia / Gymnazium Bilikova) led the Scots with nine digs. Danielle Dweck (Fy., Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) handed out 20 assists.

Carleton served 13 aces and received 26 assists from Beth Jarrett. Megan La Chapelle spiked 11 kills and Sarah Kunelius added 10.

The Scots fly to Atlanta this weekend (Sept. 19-20) to play matches at Emory University with Wittenberg (Ohio), Washington & Lee (Va.), Maryville (Tenn.) and Emory. Host-Emory is ranked No. 2 in the nation and Wittenberg is No. 7.

They return to MIAC play next Wednesday (Sept. 24) for a home match with St. Olaf at 7 p.m.
