Macalester College Athletics

Sonia Muzikarova is a 6’ outside hitter from Bratislava, Slovakia and a recent graduate of Gymnazium Bilikova 24 in Bratislava.  Sonia has played for the VK-Doprastav a.s. ‘A’ volleyball club—the highest women’s level in Slovakia.  Although the academic honors are very different in Slovakia, Sonia has passed many of her classes with “distinction” which is outstanding in their system.  She commented, “in Slovakia, hardly anyone receives other honors unless you’re and an Einstein, which I am not!”  She speaks four languages fluently and is an accomplished singer.  Along with two other vocalists, Sonia recorded a song which later became her high school anthem.  Athletically, Sonia is an accomplished elite player who has participated in many international tournaments, and has played in the top league in Slovakia.  Her high school team captured its league championship twice during her high school career.  Sonia is the daughter of Ladislav Muzikar and Iveta Muzikarova.  She plans to major in Economics or Legal Studies with a minor in Political Science or Music.
