Augsburg scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning of the nightcap to take an MIAC doubleheader in Minneapolis. The Auggies rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the opener, scoring five times in the fifth inning, to win 8-4. Macalester forced extra innings when
Lisa Moldan (Fy., Sleepy Eye., Minn. / St. Mary's) drove in a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but Augsburg completed the sweep with an 11th-inning game-winning run.
The Scots drop to 6-12 on the season and 1-5 in conference competition. The Auggies improve to 11-15 overall, 7-1 in the MIAC.
Hayley Reeves (Fy., Oberlin, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the first game. Augsburg out-hit Mac 12-4.
In game two,
Amanda Cagan (So., Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a couple RBI, while Moldan had two hits.
Ali Nystrom (So., Minnetonka, Minn.) collected two hits and pitched 10 2/3 innings.
Augsburg led 4-2 before Macalester forced extra innings with two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Meredith Wisniewski (Jr., Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South) singled,
Monica Keaney (So., Philadelphia, Pa. / Friends Select) walked and
Olivia Abbott (So., Lakewood, Colo. / Green Mountain) singled. to set up Moldan's game-tying single. Macalester went up in the top of the 10th on doubles by Nystrom and Cagan.
The Scots play Saturday (April 12) at Carleton, Monday (April 14) at Gustavus and Tuesday at Dunning Field against St. Benedict.
