Macalester closed out the 2008 season on a winning note, sweeping Carleton 6-1 and 12-4 in Northfield.
Olivia Abbott (So., Lakewood, Colo. / Green Mountain) tossed a one-hitter in the opener and the Scots pounded out 14 hits in the nightcap to complete the sweep.
Abbott yielded a fourth-inning solo homer in the fourth but other than that, gave up no hits to the Knights.
Monica Keaney (So., Philadelphia, Pa. / Friends Select) went 2-for-4 and belted her second home run in the past four games to lead the 12-hit attack.
Katie Grudnowski (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn. / Blake School),
Meredith Wisniewski (Jr., Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South) and
Crystal Barriga (So., Lakewood, Colo. / Legacy) collected two hits in four at-bats.
Hayley Reeves (Fy., Oberlin, Ohio) scored two runs and drove in a pair.
Barriga, last week's MIAC player of the week, collected her sixth homer of the season in game two, while Reeves and
Amanda Cagan (So., Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) and Reeves added triples. Cagan was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while Macalester received a pair of hits each from Barriga, Reeves and Wisniewski. Reeves and Barriga drove in three runs apiece.
Barriga's 5-for-7 day brings her season average to .407 and her slugging percentage rises to .704. Her 39 RBIs is the most ever for a Scot and her '08 season was among the best in the program's history.
The Scots close out the season at 10-24 overall and 5-17 in the MIAC. Seven of their 17 conference defeats were by just a single run and another two were in two-run decisions.
