Gustavus takes pair from Scots in MIAC twinbill

Game one box score | Game 2 box score

Macalester took on one of the league's top teams and came up short as Gustavus Adolphus swept the Scots 4-0 and 9-2 in St. Peter. The losses drop the Scots to 6-14 overall, 1-7 in the MIAC, while the Gusties go to 15-5 on the season and 5-3 in MIAC play.

Gustavus starter Betsie Collins held the Scots to just two hits, both by Hayley Reeves (Fy., Oberlin, Ohio), to earn the shutout in the first game. The Gusties broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to account for all the runs they needed. Olivia Abbott (So., Lakewood, Colo. / Green Mountain) pitched well, allowing just two earned runs and seven hits.

Macalester's Ali Nystrom (So., Minnetonka) went 3-for-4 and Crystal Barriga (So., Broomfield, Colo. / Legacy) went 2-for-3 in game two. Gustavus put three runs on the board in each of the first and second innings.

The Scots jump right back into action tomorrow (April 15) when they host St. Benedict at Dunning Softball Complex at 4 p.m. They play Thursday (April 17) at St. Catherine at 4 p.m. and make the trip to Moorhead Saturday (April 19) to take on Concordia at 1 p.m.
