Carleton knocks Scots out of MIAC playoffs

Macalester vs. Carleton statistics

Carleton netted three second half goals and beat the Scots 3-0 Wednesday in an MIAC semi-final match in Northfield and Macalester's season comes to an end.

The No. 2 seeded Knights improve to 14-5 and advance to Saturday's MIAC finals at home against Concordia. The winner of that match earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. Macalester closes out its season at 9-8-1 and posts a winning record for the 20th year in a row.

The game was scoreless in the first half before Carleton came alive in the second half with a dominant attack.

Following a scoreless and evenly-placed first half, Carleton took command of the match when Mia Zutz scored her fifth goal of the campaign in the 53rd. The Knights then buried the Scots on a Cassie Burke score in the 65th minute and a Lily VanderStaay goal in the 66th minute.

Carleton out-shot Macalester 18-7 and enjoyed a 12-3 margin in shots on goal.

Macalester has made the four-team MIAC playoffs ever since the league's playoff format began in 2006. This is the third straight year the Scots have been eliminated in the first round. In 2006, Carleton topped Mac 1-0 in the semi-finals, and last year Concordia toppled the Scots 2-0.
