Macalester vs. St. Catherine statistics
Macalester hosted neighborhood rival St. Catherine Wednesday at the Leonard Center and was denied victory by the Wildcats, who won the third and fourth sets for a 3-1 MIAC victory over the Scots. Game scores, in favor of St. Kate's, were 25-16, 23-25, 26-24 and 25-20,
After CSC took the opener, the Scots staged a 10-4 rally to take command of set two, going up 20-15 and hanging on for a two-point decision. St. Catherine responded with a two-point win of its own in the pivotal third set and then came back from a 10-6 deficit in set four.
St. Kate's gets their first conference win and improves to 7-10 overall and 1-5 in the MIAC. The Scots are 4-12 on the year, 0-6 in MIAC play.
Sonia Muzikarova (Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia / Gymnazium Bilikova) and
Majra Mucic (So., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park (Minn.)) spiked 17 kills apiece to lead the Macalester attack at the net. Muzikarova led the team with 16 digs and three serving aces, while Mucic attacked at a .500 rate.
Danielle Dweck (Fy., Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) set 36 assists and recorded 13 digs, and
Taylor Tinkham (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) had four blocks.
St. Catherine was led by Nicole Neumann with six of the team's 11 aces, while Whitney Sparby handed out 31 assists.
The Scots head to the
Wisconsin-River Falls Invitational this weekend (Oct. 10-11), where they will face UW-River Falls, St. Mary's, Viterbo and Augsburg.
