Not since the 1993 season had the Macalester Scots lost on their home field to an MIAC rival. That was, however, until today when Concordia-Moorhead earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory in St. Paul. Including regular-season and post-season matches, Coach John Leaney and the Scots had gone 74-0-8 against MIAC rivals for an amazing unbeaten streak of 82 games.
Concordia, two-time defending MIAC champ, snaps a two-game slide and gets back into the MIAC playoff picture at 8-2-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the league. Macalester's four-game conference win streak ends as the Scots drop to 7-4 on the year, 4-2 in the MIAC.
The Cobbers scored the only goal of the contest in the 23rd minute as Vanessa Kowalski took the ball away from the Mac defense and beat the keeper from six yards out for her first goal of the season.
The game was very closely played and dominated by solid defensive play. Mac out-shot CC 10-7, while the Cobbers enjoyed a 6-5 corner kick advantage.
Mac will attempt to re-group when it travels to Winona on Saturday (Oct. 11) to take on St. Mary's.
