Dig Pink Night information
Macalester suffered its second painful 3-2 MIAC setback in 48 hours when Bethel rallied to take sets four and five to topple the Scots Friday night at the Leonard Center. The Scots lost another five-set heart-breaker Wednesday to Augsburg and fall to 4-11 overall and 0-5 in the MIAC. Bethel goes to 6-11 on the season, 1-4 in the MIAC.
The Scots had lost their previous seven sets decided by just two points – a couple against top-ten ranked teams – before stopping their frustrating streak of hard luck when they claimed the exciting third set 26-24 to go up two-to-one against the Royals, who were also seeking their initial MIAC triumph. Bethel stayed alive by hitting .448 in the fourth set and then rallied from an 8-4 deficit to take the decisive set 15-10 by hitting .318.
Majra Mucic (So., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park (Minn.)) attacked at a .333 percentage and spiked 18 kills to lead the way for the Scots.
Sonia Muzikarova (Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia / Gymnazium Bilikova) hammered 16 kills. Setter
Danielle Dweck (Fy., Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) handed out a season-best 47 assists and is averaging 8.6 assists per game over the last two matches.
Three Scots reached double figures in digs, led by
Erin Cusac (Jr., Pine River, Minn. / Pine River-Backus) with 18 and
Marie Godwin (Jr., Chaska, Minn.) with 17. Cusac had the set-winning kill in the third set. Dweck added 13 digs.
Bethel's Kelly Otto had seven blocks and 10 kills. Chelsea Falck led the Royals with 12 kills and Nicole Wriesr added 11.
