Macalester improved its record to 9-6-1 – surpassing season win totals from the each of the last two years when it finished with eight victories – by defeating visiting Clarke (Ia.) 3-0 with a solid all-around effort. The Scots are now 8-1-1 this season at Macalester Stadium.
The Scots out-shot the Crusaders 18-3 and launched eight shots on goal. Clarke falls to 5-8-2. Macalester received scores from
Ryan Marshall (Fy., Plymouth, Minn. / Robbinsdale Armstrong),
Reid Useman (Fy., Asheville, N.C. / A.C. Reynolds) and
Jeremy Carp (Fy., Portland, Ore. / Oregon Episcopal School).
Eric Tettegah (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Breck School) assisted on the team's first two tallies.
Tettegah and Usedom made nice passes to assist on Marshall's fourth goal of the year in the 13th minute and just four minutes before the halftime break Usedom netted his fourth on another Tettegah assist. Marshall and
Erik Johnson (So., Bethesda, Md. / Landon) teamed up to assist on Carp's first Macalester career goal in the 77th minute.
Macalester will close out the regular season the next two Friday nights (Oct. 24th and 31st) against MIAC stalwarts Gustavus and Augsburg. The Scots host the Gusties next Friday and will take another seven-day rest into the finale at Augsburg. Mac is 4-3-1 in the MIAC and needs two wins and some good fortune to get into the four-team conference playoffs.
