Macalester vs. Gustavus meet results
The Scots took on powerhouse Gustavus teams Friday night in St. Peter and came out on the losing end of MIAC dual meets to the Gusties. The Gustavus women, the defending MIAC champs and the No. 24-ranked team in the nation, won by a 143-79 tally. The Gustavus men, ranked No. 11 in the NCAA Division III, beat the Scots 162-39.
Alex Cortes (Jr., Berkeley, Calif. / Head-Royce), Anna Gajewski (So., Wausau, Wis. / East) and Annie Flanagan (Jr., Madison, Wis. / East) turned in first-place finishes to lead the way for the Mac women. Cortes won the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.47), Gajewski took first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.95) and All-MIAC diver Flanagan placed first in 3-meter diving (190.95).
Second-place finishers for the Macalester women were Gajewski in the 200-yard individual medlay (2:20.64) and Kiersten Yeazel (Fy., Shorewood, Wis.) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.29).
Mac's lone first-place finish on the men's side was turned in by Nathan Young (Fy., Denver, Colo. / Littleton). Last week's MIAC Swimmer of the Week, Young won the 100 backstroke (53.58). He is currently ranked second in the MIAC in both backstroke events. Young also placed second in the 50 freestyle (22.68).
