Scots return from Hawaii; Take on St. Olaf

Just a day after returning from a two-week training trip in Maui, the Scots took on MIAC power St. Olaf in Northfield. The Oles won both duals, winning the women's competition 170-111 and taking the men's dual 160-94.

Nathan Young (Fy., Denver, Colo. / Littleton) won the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.03) to lead the way for the Macalester men.

Alex Cortes (Jr., Berkeley, Calif. / Head-Royce) led the way for the Mac women, picking up first-place finishes in two events. Cortes placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:05.88) and also took the 100 free (58.07). Teammate Kiersten Yeazel (Fy., Shorewood, Wis.) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.13).

Second-place finishers for the Macalester men were turned in by Mitch Stepleton (So., Boulder, Colo. / Fairview) in the 500 freestyle (5:11.63), Jeff Yamashita (Fy., Honolulu, Hi. / Iolani) in the 50 free (21.58), and Young in both the 100 backstroke (53.20) and 200 butterfly (2:18.15).

Annie Flanagan (Jr., Madison, Wis. / East) placed second in 1-meter diving (156.70) and 3-meter diving (197.40). Other second-place efforts for the Mac women were provided by Katharine Heg (So., Houston, Tex. / Oakridge) in the 1000 freestyle (11:39.39) and Kristin Mathson (Sr., Verona, Wis.) in the 400 individual medley (5:10.91).

The Scots compete Friday and Saturday (Jan. 18-19) at the Grinnell Invitational.
