Women go 2-1 at Hamline Quadrangular

The Scots had a multiple-team dual meet at Hamline University against MIAC rivals. Macalester's women out-scored Augsburg 146-33 and St. Mary's 128-80, while losing by a 123-90 tally to the host-Pipers. The Mac men were topped by St. Mary's 129-69 and Hamline 125-48.

In the four-team women's competition, the Scots were led by Katharine Heg (So., Houston, Tex. / Oakridge), who earned multiple first-place finishes. Heg placed first overall in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:54.10) and the 500 freestyle (5:47.42).

Kiersten Yeazel (Fy., Shorewood, Wis.) won the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.16) and was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.04). Sophia Slote (Fy., Lenox, Mass. / Memorial) swam to a pair of runner-up finishes, taking second in the 200 free (2:11.58) and 100 back (1:06.54). Anna Gajewski (So., Wausau, Wis. / East) placed second in the 100 freestyle (58.69).

In the three-team men's triangular with Hamline and St. Mary's, the Scots were led by Nathan Young (Fy., Denver, Colo. / Littleton), who won the 100-yard backstroke (55.30) and placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.27).

Mitch Stepleton (So., Boulder, Colo. / Fairview) swam to second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.01) and 500 freestyle (5:23.08).

Macalester's best relay performance on the night was a first-place effort turned in the by the women in the first event of the night, the 200-yard medley relay. Macalester relay team members were Slote, Yeazel, Emily Clark (Sr., Corvallis, Ore.) and Gajewski.

The Scots jump right back into the pool tomorrow at the Cows, Colleges & Contentment Classic in Northfield .
