Why did you choose to attend Macalester?

At first, Macalester was just one name on a list of many similar, small, liberal arts schools. Ultimately, I was interested in Macalester because of its academic opportunities and reputation, its location (I wanted to go somewhere that wasn't the East Coast), and its athletics. But what truly made Mac stand out from those other schools and the reason I decided to enroll was the people and the atmosphere I encountered when I visited in the spring of my Senior year. Everyone was friendly, interesting, interested and well-spoken. I knew when I visited that it was a place I'd love to spend four years.

What has your experience at Macalester meant to you so far?

My experience at Macalester has meant everything to me. People tell you that college is the best years of your life and, from my time here, I believe and corroborate that. I've met so many great people that have changed the way I look at and approach the world around me. It has been a rigorous but great two years and I look forward to my third.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester helped shape you as an individual?

There is nothing comparable to being a collegiate athlete. It provides you with a family that is as close-knit and wonderful as the one you left at home. Most would agree that, as part of a family, there comes responsibility, accountability, support, and love. These are qualities that not all students find easily in their transition to college life. Personally, I would not be half as confident, happy, and capable of managing my own life if it weren't for my team and the experience of being a student-athlete.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester prepared you for life after graduation?

Being a member of a team and community made up of such eclectic, intelligent and amazing people has broadened my perspectives on almost everything. I know that, wherever I go and whatever I do after graduation, I will have a team and family at Macalester
