Loreena Anderson began her coaching career coaching throws at various Minnesota high schools and Macalester in the 1980s. Anderson coached Janis Rider, the namesake of the Janis Rider Invitational hosted by Mac Track & Field each spring, to her NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship win in the Javelin in 1988. Anderson was head women’s track & field coach at Hamline University from 1996-2003. During this time Anderson coached Kris Kuehl who earned a spot on the 2004 Olympic team in the discus. After this Anderson coached in Wisconsin and Illinois until last year when she rejoined the Mac staff as javelin coach.
Anderson attended the University of Minnesota for both her undergraduate and graduate career. She has her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and a Masters in Education. While there, she became Big 10 javelin champion. Prior to this, Anderson was an All-American discus thrower in high school.
Anderson lives in Richfield and works for Optum managing a team of nine wellness coaches who are in St. Louis, Missouri. These coaches teach those receiving Medicare ways to stay healthy.
