Why did you choose to attend Macalester?
I went to a small high school of around 80 students per class, so the small size of Macalester was very appealing to me, and the small class-sizes were especially influential in my decision. Macalester is also one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation according to basically all measures, and although I am a math and science type person myself, I wanted to have a well-rounded education in all areas and to not just focus on my biggest interests.
How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester prepared you for life after graduation?
Macalester has taught me several important life schools, chief among them being that success does not come from success, but that failures can teach you even more. Being a student athlete has taught me many skills that will be useful in graduate school and beyond, but chief among them is time management. With how busy my schedule is in-season, I need to balance my time carefully so that I don't fall behind on either athletics or coursework. In professional research, I will need to keep pushing through hardship, and being a track athlete has shaped me well to do that.
